The front spring is mounted to the armature bar, and is the piece
of metal that will make contact with the front contact screw. As
the armature bar moves due to the magnets in the coils pulling it
down, the front spring will move with it. As the front spring looses
contact, with the contact screw, the electrical circuit is open.
As the spring retreats back upwards it will hit the contact screw
and absorb some energy and spring back down after the circuit
is reopened. So you can visualize that once the cycle has started
it is not just the magnets pulling down the armature bar, but it
is a smooth balancing act between the magnets and the springs’
ability to transpose the stored energy from being physically hit.
