• yeah man, that’s the real stuff. From what I understand, Waverly and Old Gold are the highest quality pigments money can buy.
I paid with a credit card and received my order 3 days later.
I’ve placed two seperate orders now and have never had a problem. Some places are really strict about who they sell to.
    http://www.waverlycolor.com/ is not.

  • Damn Spider you just gave out some serious info. Both shops I’ve worked at when I was apprenticing stressed laying out your blacks like that. Witch Hazel is the shit!!!!

I hope people see this as this is a great way to work.

Thanks guys! I just recently started oil painting too so as soon as I get something decent looking I’ll be posting that kind of stuff too.
Tattooing is slow right now. I’m just taking small work and fixer-uppers for now. I’ve got a couple guys that want some seriously big work done but I have to put them off until I feel ready.

  • Kiro sumi is definitely a staple in the tattoo world. Just make sure to get a real bottle of stuff, not the chinese imposter.

Another to check out would be Waverly’s Bluebird and Dark Black. http://www.waverlycolor.com/products/blue-bird
Dark Black is more for tribal and traditional. Bluebird is a bit more versatile so if money is tight you may…[Read more]

  • okay….back on topic?

I’ve tried Starbrite and just wasn’t happy. I made sure I bought the legit stuff but it’s just not for me.

Right now I only use Waverly http://www.waverlycolor.com/collections/tattoo-pigment
I haven’t had an issue ordering and they give a great deal on a sample set so you can try it out with little cost.

    Bluebird is a…[Read more]

  • I think that getting over performance anxiety is one of the first really tough things that a beginning tattooer has to deal with.
Hopefully you don’t feel alone on this after some of these responses. It happens to everyone and lacking an official mentor to sit with you and walk you through it just makes it that much harder. From what I understand…[Read more]

  • Right on dude! That stuff is looking great. Keep doing flash!

How are your reference’s looking? Have you ever heard of Todd Noble? He’s put out 5 volumes now, mostly line drawings of both Americana and Japanese flash. Tons of girl heads, flowers, hannyas, etc. I picked up vol. 4&5 at the bay area convention of the arts and they’ve quickly become…[Read more]

Be careful when buying kits as they try to get your attention offering flashy, or many machines. You’re best to get a good quality kit–IE the 190$ Hildbrant one–or build one yourself.

    ^what he said.

  • Welcome to the forum.

You should have no problem getting everything you need (sterile-wise and more) from Unimax Supply. They’ve got a Texas and NY store, so if one is sold out, the other has it.

There are tons of great resources here. Many topics cover a lot of great places to get supplies, machines, tubes, needles and more from. My first…[Read more]

  • yeah, free work for life seems like a bit much. Right now though, I just need to do a bunch of tattoos. I’m finally starting to be happy with my drawing skill (1000 sphere drawings later). After putting all my savings into everything I could possibly need, I find myself desperate for work. Hopefully things pan out and I’ll be able to start…[Read more]

  • Welcome!

Once you have sterilization procedures down and are confident in your setup you’ll find that syncing up with your machine is key. It may take awhile but dont give up! It’s gets better every time.

It seems like a lot of people are happy answer questions and share information. I know I am. If you hit any walls, don’t hesitate to reach.…[Read more]

  • I did a lot of oranges in the beginning. Graduated to a few practice skins, but didn’t really like it.
I found my own skin much easier. I had the blessing of working in two phenomenal shops. I ended up picking up a lot more techniques than was probably intended.

Most of what I know was taught to me by tattooers who weren’t my official teacher.…[Read more]

    Welcome to the forum!

I’d say this place is a good source of self-taught artists that actually know what they’re talking about!

As far as the “scratcher” word goes, I tend to replace it with the word Ronin in cases like yours.

The difference being a scratcher is a mentorless “artist” (for lack of a better word) who has no real…

  • I definitely hear what you’re saying.
It seems the path to tattooing is riddled with pitfalls. A lot of people have a rough time. My friend opened a private studio (just her tattooing there) and almost immeadiately was hit with an arson threat. She managed to calm everything down, but still… very scary.
Hopefully, as I advance I can share some…[Read more]
