Hello all, I’m Mark (the screen name is an alter ego). I am in the extreme early stages of tattoo training. By that I mean, as I type this, I haven’t done an actual tattoo yet. I’m reading the book and watching every video I find.
I’m 40+, but been interested in becoming a tattoo artist since I got my first tattoo nearly 20 years ago. A buddy of mine started doing home tattoos a couple years ago (not the best) and it made me realize if he could do it, I could do it, and do it better. There is a local shop that I am friends with one of the co-owners, and I believe I can get an apprenticeship there, as soon as I have the time to dedicate to it (after my wife finishes her schooling this year, most likely). But I don’t want to go into an apprenticeship as a complete newbie, so I’m learning as much as I can in the meantime, I have a kit (and already learning what will need to be improved with it), have practice skins and plenty of oranges to get started on.
Hoping to soak in all of your knowledge and be an active member here.
