Ahhh man, what a question ;)

It all depends on your pref.

But you could say a rule of thumb applies here.

Imagine a long and wide, generally soft’ish, are preffered for shaders, you will need a soft hit, for a smooth shade.

And short, stiff’ish, hits hard, and are for you hard/fast liners.

Those that are medium, (which is hard to tell) are basically for both.

      Long, wide, soft = Shader
      Short, narrow, hard = liner

Now thats just my pref, I am sure, some use it the other way around, since…. Why not… :ugeek:

Yes no doubt.. I just picked up some new machines, a couple of Cams and some other very nice machines. and now have the joy of playing with them to get “that feel” Len is correct. The tweaking is a science all in itself. The way it sounds, the throw, the vibration and so on. A good tuned liner will run at as low as 4.5-5, (mine purr like little tigers at 4.7), a good shader can run smoothly at 7-8. My rule of thumb, if it doesn’t “feel” right then it probably isn’t tuned right.
