A wise old-timer tattoo artist once told me that a good tattoo
maker should be able to tattoo well with any machine, if given
enough time to tinker with it. You will see your game improve by
leaps and bounds if you switch from a lower class machine to a
better made one. Better constructed machines made of higher
grade materials will not only run cooler and smoother, but they
will stay in tune longer and save you a lot of frustration while
keeping your work consistent. While completing my apprenticeship
I had the most out of tune and horribly cheap machines in
the shop. It was that difficult training with cheap and old machines
that eventually taught me that I could do pretty good
work with anything. Once I was “allowed” to buy my own “real
machines” I was amazed at the increase in the quality and healing
of my tattoos.
