There was a time when pre-made needles were non-existent.
This is where the “new needles every time” signs posted on
the front of tattoo studios. In more recent times there has been
a boom in the manufacturing and distribution of tattoo needles
from third party industries. This all but eliminated the need for
the tattoo artist to even consider making his own needles. Some
tattoo artists will still say that an apprentice should learn how to
make needle groupings from scratch. Yet still today, some artists
swear by their needles and make them religiously, or they use
special configurations that are not available on the mass manufactured
market.
